Preserving Hungarian Flavors

While the heyday of Hungarian establishments in Upper Manhattan may have passed, the Hungarian Pastry Shop proudly stands as one of the few remaining places where you can savor the authentic flavors of Hungary. Since its inception, the shop has been famous for its Dobos tortes, croissants, and other Hungarian pastries that have captured the hearts of both Columbia students and faculty.

In 1976, the Greek immigrants who now own the shop, including the dedicated Panagiotis Binioris, took over from the original owners and committed themselves to preserving the traditions and recipes that made the Hungarian Pastry Shop a beloved establishment. With the guidance of Ms. Száraz, the former owner, they continued to serve the same mouthwatering pastries and maintained the unique character of the shop.

The Timeless Charm of Hungarian Pastry Shop

At the Hungarian Pastry Shop, the passage of time has brought little change. The vintage interior, weathered display glass, and the decades-old menu still remain, allowing visitors to experience the nostalgic essence of the shop. From classic Austro-Hungarian treats like pogácsa and Sacher torte to the Jewish-Hungarian specialty Hamantaschen, the menu caters to a range of tastes and preferences.

When you visit the Hungarian Pastry Shop, you not only enjoy delectable pastries but also become a part of its rich history. The promise made by the Binioris family to their loyal customers to preserve the essence of the shop has been upheld, ensuring that each visit is a cherished experience that transports you to the heart of Hungary.
